Welcome to applaud the dog!

My name is Kelly Leisten and I am a certified professional dog trainer in Madison, CT. My primary focus is working with dogs who can be fearful, reactive or impulsive (I have one of each!).

​

Using reward-based, positive reinforcement training, I tailor private sessions and group classes to teach dogs and their families valuable skills that help them feel comfortable and safe in their environment.  

​

I’ve been fortunate to gain extensive education and experience from leading trainers and behavior consultants in positive reinforcement training, aggression & reactivity, behavior modification and animal rescue.  In addition to being the Owner and Head Trainer of applaud the dog, I’m proud to be:

• a Certified Training Partner of the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behavior (graduated with distinction)

• a CCUI (Certified Control Unleashed Instructor)

• a Supporting Member of IAABC (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants)

• a Member of the ABMA (Animal Behavior Management Alliance)

• a former Head Trainer teaching reactive dog classes at a major animal rescue organization in Manchester, CT

• recommended by veterinarians, veterinary behavior consultants and trainers.

I primarily serve towns along and near the Connecticut Shoreline, including Branford, Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Durham, East Haven, Essex, Guilford, Killingworth, Madison, North Branford, North Guilford, Old Saybrook and Westbrook. I am also available to clients in other parts of New Haven and Middlesex Counties.
